Jumping Rank:
From LawMeme, an examination of the legal battle between SearchKing and Google.
It looks like a slam dunk for Google, but the suit raises interesting questions about what happens when a search service becomes a defacto standard. Do special legal responsibilities apply? Should it be treated like a public utility?

Google 11 out of 10? Can you get a patent on an opinion? According to this link http://www.searchnerd.com/pagerank/ is assigning to itself a PageRank value of 11 out of 10.
According to the court case filings Google now claim PageRank is an opinion not an algorithm that is not necessarily based on facts. See court papers. Now they have claim before the USPTO that pagerank is an objective invention and now before the federal court that is not objective but a subjective opinion protected by the First Amendment, can they lose their patent? I think so. Google is simply trying to have it both ways. Opinions are not protected by patents laws. Right?
You cannot have a doctoral dissertation approved based on opinions, either. So which way is up, Google?
