I met Nicholas Negroponte briefly a few years ago at a book signing and he came across as an arrogant jerk. Maybe he was having a bad day, I don't know, but that experience colored my opinion of his One Laptop per Child project which I tended to see as a vanity effort, doomed to failure.

But according to David Pogue the laptop design is brilliant.
