The Globe editorializes in favor of opening the Downtown Crossing to vehicular traffic. I'm not so sure that's the answer to bringing the area back to life. But something definitely is needed. .

I remember standing out at Washington and Summer on that day in the early 80's, when the last car was allowed through. It was just another downtown intersection then, albeit a vibrant bustling one.
