Shades of power:

Boston Magazine took some heat for its list of the most powerful people in Boston which contained only one Black power-broker, Gene Rivers, at number 97. In the current issue, in response to the criticism, they offer an essay that dwells on the city's history of racism rather than on their own myopic vision and laziness.

First of all, it's not breaking news that Boston Magazine is out of touch with the Boston south of Newbury Street. But still, that's no excuse. Where's Ray Hammond, Oliver Willis, Don Muhammad, Ralph Martin, Wayne Budd? Hell, even Chuck Turner has more substantive impact on the lives of more people than either Laura Raposa or Gayle Fee.

Unless, that is, your idea of substantive impact is being informed about which movie star was seen lounging on Nantucket Island two days ago.
