Maybe what's going on is not cooperation between Shiites and Sunni to drive the US out of Iraq, a possiblity raised by this Times article. More likely it's Iran fermenting general instability, with an end game of civil war, Shia domination, partition and ultimately annexing a large (oil producing) part of Iraq to Iran.

It may not play out that way but the evidence of overt explosives trafficking from Iran is disturbing evidence that the region is destabilizing sooner rather than later. And that doesn't bode well for our oil-dependent economy. Maybe Mike Dukakis was on to something after all.
