Cognitive redefinition:
Reading George Lakoff describe conservative values is like listening to a conservative talk-radio host describe liberal values. Each compares the reasonably stated positions of their own side against the extreme position of the other side. It's all a game of using language to distort reality. As Lakoff himself admits, "The mechanism of redefinition is cognitive."
Despite their skill in distorting, most talk radio hosts are, I'm guessing, in it strictly for the audience numbers. They could and would switch ideological sides instantly if their listeners did. Which makes Lakoff's more sincere disingenuousness all the more pathetic.
