November surprises:
Some are suggesting that the Saddam Hussein death verdict, just days before the election, is suspicious in it's timing. Anything is possible but with all the chaos and uncertainty surrounding the trial, a conspiracy doesn't ring true to me.
And we haven't had the terror alert raised for this election as it was for 2004 (although we have had a terror related campaign ad.)
The real November surprise might have been gas prices. They don't seem to be having a big impact on the elections but if they were much higher it might be a different story. I know, I know, market forces control oil prices, but it's one of those coincidences that makes people wonder. And they'll wonder even more when prices at the pump start to rise on November 8th.
